Abraham was asked to sacrifice Isaac to show Abraham the promise didn’t rest on Isaac, but on God. Not who Isaac was, Isaac's power, or anything else. (Even God is able to turn stones into the sons of Abraham.) The promise, every part of it, rested on God.
