Jellit brings up Tonners dead partner, Else, to him & he gets upset. Tonner takes a sample of Dafyds rockhund to figure out why they are constantly nibbling on each other. Jessyn is taken by a native human (W a knife on her back) to a hideout cave with a woman, a sentry & kids. They feed her. The man didnt search her so she still has her journal, which has a tracker. She tells a researcher to meet her at coordinates.

The people on the spaceship are watching the destruction of billions from the enemy planet die in a fire. The research team tell Dafyd they don't work with aliens in the labs after what happened to Tonner. The spy turns from Jellit to Else-ish & talks to Dafyd to make him happy. D is angry & wants it to morph back. It is angry bc it killed people. The spy finally realizes it killed people, they are not "inside."

Jessyn is recovering & dodged questions about what happened to her + grarl. She went back to the site & found the anti-ship weapon & a note from grarl asking her to escape W him. Campar + ghati investigate the enemy ship but get evacuated due to more enemies. Slug alien gets permission to make them go back. Campar starts to think the ship belongs to humanoids. Jessyn & the rest went to the soldier's ship ruins. She got a ship messing device & gun from the soldier. She hid them at her camp & shot herself to make a "convincing story" (dumb). All moeties on the war ship were split in half, so one group could board the enemy ship/explore. Dafyd reached out to Tonner's #2 to lead the lab of fetuses. He did not feel qualified. Dafyd told him to delete Tonners soft lothar study.

Campar's partner is losing thw I'll to live, he wants to ell him of Dafyds plan & spy but Rickar thinks D was lying. The ship keeps getting attacked. The dancer learned somethings about how the aliens communicate. Tonner tells dafyd that the soft lothar communicate by nibbling each other. A S.L in the room kills him. Dafyd is defended by his rockhund, who dies. The queen carryx is going to welcome a new daughter.

Jessyn's Beau (grarl?) can communicatish W the native man (former teacher). The woman was also a teacher. They were on a field trip & took too long getting back. The sentry is a live-suit soldier who was badly wounded. Their plan: have the woman + Grll + kids go elsewhere, Jessyn + live suit will go set off a beacon. The other human ships will pick the kids up. Grll will go to communicate. Kamikaze for J + live suit.

Dafyd got the ok to take Jellit to explore the world outside the carryx ship under the pretense they were testing someone out. As dafyd was controlling the transport, Jellit felt (can sense all communications carryx send to their library but cannot sift through it) "everything" as they got closer to the carryx "streets" /burrows.

Dafyd has a recurring nightmare where he can't find the librarian. He breaks the nightmare by turning into a carryx. He wakes up and goes to the mess hall. Jellit avoids him but the mythologist comes up to him with the dancer that punched him. Her proposal: the dancer will study nonverbal communications of the carryx. Dafyd is unsure bc the dancer is a hot head. But the dancer studied animal movement. Could help.

Jessyn's aquatance goes to her coordinates & comes across a native woman from the cave. He follows her until the cave, then runs away. But the armed man & turret guy drag him in. The natives realize he has a tablet & start packing, realizing their location has been compromised. J+ are tied up but the guy understands the math the kids are working on and basic words--early aijin language = share cultural ancestor

The rest of the lab team is in outer space going towards a war zone. Another alien type starts dancing & then everyone of the ship experiences issues (humans think they're having a stroke, the caryx are affected). After it stops a friendly alien mentions that the other aliens are sensitive to that attack & serve as an alarm. Every alien on the ship has a purpose, maybe humans were brought to see what their purpose is

Davif is trying to get the mythologist on board by saying she needs to create a curriculum that highlights past resistance stories so a future generation understands to be complacent until you fight. Jessyn is in another world and realizes that humans lived there. They grew pears. Then she encounters another human, native most likely, who is trying to get her to follow him. She is trying to get him to leave her.
