These characters so far have nothing in common with each other outside of location. The location itself isn't particularly spooky and doesn't appear to be becoming spooky. Sen's story can be entirely removed and the book would be more compelling. If the writer wanted to tell her story (and she so desperately, desperately does) she should have written that story instead of this dual narrative.
