VISUALIZE: On page 137, the author paints a picture of Hobie's home for the reader to visualize. The author wrote, "Hobie was coming down the stairs like a freight train, nothing can get in the way of rescuing his dog... the smell of pancakes and bacon fill the air with the music playing in a roaring tone for everyone to dance. It was like it was Hobies dream." On this page, Kirby Larson painted a very visual scene.

SETTING: The setting is in the World War II era while moving through Hobie's school & home. On page 68, Hobie's mom asks, "You don't want Hitler to win the war, right? You must donate to help our troops like your dad beat Nazis." This shows that the time period is in the World War II era. On page 65, Hobie says, "Here, school is fun... here at home, I feel safe. " This proves the story often moves to school & home.
