I've not considered the case where 1 is convicted of sin but hastily searches for a promise in Scripture to help heal the wound and obtain pardon, that perhaps the Lord desires a more slow, contrite approach before granting peace

"Won't due apprehension of God's inconceivable greatness, & the infinite distance we stand from Him, fill our souls w/ holy, awful fear of Him, & keep us in a frame unsuited for any lust to thrive? We should continually hold reverential thoughts of God's greatness & omnipresence — then we'll always be watchful against behavior unsuited to His presence."

- Sin makes you stupid (noetic effects).
- Sin, if unresisted, hardens the heart and pulls the fear of God. We become "sermon-proof".
- Sin robs is of peace and strength. Think of the example of a paranoid mafioso
- Continual sin leads to eternal destruction (Hell). The unrepentant life of a "Christian" should be a note for them to take stock of their standing with God. Are they really "in Christ"?
