It’s very didactic and obvious with its messaging which doesn’t help that it’s not very original ideas—xenophobia, fear and patriotism->surveillance state pipeline, bystander effect, etc. there’s nothing really new or insightful beyond the usuals.
The prose reads like a creative writing course assignment, but at least a decent one. It’s clean a technically good, but lacks character and feeling.

Very thematically forward with the whole dystopia and not in a particularly interesting or novel way either. But also I guess the whole dystopia thing just isn’t for me especially with the prominent social commentary.
The writing though is great though a touch excessive in detail here and there. And the plot I’m starting to get invested in so at least there’s that.
