Ok, I don’t mean this as the book is bad or anything, but it seems like a white writer writing about Chinese stories. I had to look up the author, and she is Chinese Canadian. This book has me really confused about what it wants to be. Why are there so many Western references, slang, and sayings? It is inspired by Chinese mythology, but it’s told through a Western lens.

I don’t like the use of language. I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be modern English or older English because it keeps jumping back and forth. It doesn’t make any sense.
