as with every book to movie adaption, the movie misses out some really good story points. the bit about johanssen being chosen to be the only one to survive and the rest having to kill themselves and her cannibalize them is a good small plotline. idk if you can call it a plotline, it's only mentioned in hypothetical. but it's good. god i love science fiction.

in my mind hes a black trans man, which poses the question of HRT in space. he wouldnt have enough for his entire stretch on mars, right? so he'd have to deal with no testosterone - possibly getting periods again - in space. its an interesting hypothetical. i love him.

oh how i love sci fi that reminds me of my dad. saw the movie back when i was a kid when it first came out and i loved it (though OUGHH the scene where he pulls out the spire....) and im loving the book as much, if not more. mark watney you are a trans man because who in their right mind would study botany if not for a nerdy tboy.
