A clever twist on the classic whodunit: Mr. Shaitana hosts a dinner party for four detectives and four people he believes have gotten away with murder and before the night is over, Shaitana himself is killed. With only four suspects, Christie dispenses with red herrings entirely; the deduction is purely psychological. The result is one of her most original puzzles compact, surprising, and deeply satisfying.​​
