Several sections on particular Jeopardy! contestants—Jennings (of course), Holzhauer, and Rutter, but also several lesser-known or lesser-remembered contestants. This appreciation of these folks is so sincere and kind; it made me tear up a little. He ended it with another call for “compromise” as an answer to political division, though, and the both-sidesism inherent in this still irks me.

I arrived at the airport 2 hours early, then my flight was delayed by 1 hour, so I got a lot of listening in while waiting. The book is kind of disjointed but has some sweet moments. His political views are surprisingly naïve, leaning on a “why don’t we work TOGETHER to solve problems” framing w/o recognizing there is no common view of what the problems ARE. What’s the answer when the GOP *is* the problem?

I’m in the middle of an audiobook (THE FRIEND) but this one came available and it’s fairly short (5 hours). I still probably wouldn’t have checked it out because I listen to audiobooks quite slowly, except that I’m preparing to go on an airplane flight tomorrow, including a like 3.5-hour layover. I thought it likely I could get a lot of the way through this if not finish it outright. I guess we’ll see!

I think compromise is possible if both sides come to the table and deal in good faith. But it’s abundantly clear that one side has never actually been willing to do that.
