I don't know why, but I thought this was a stand-alone book 1 in a duology set in the *world* of Thorn, but this is alluding so much to what happened in Thorn and the characters from Thorn are in it so much that I'm questioning whether I should keep going or stop and go back and read Thorn first?

This is exactly what happened when I started reading The Royal Artisan, I thought I could get away with reading it before The Queen's Cook and I could not. Why do these second-in-series books keep looking more interesting than the first ones 😭
