Finished part one (The Part About the Critics). I enjoyed this less as it went on, but it was never short of being good. Bolaño seems to know that he has a great eye for detail and ends up overdoing it at times. Several of the anecdotes and letters felt very detached from what should have been a comprehensive and engaging plot. Live by the sword, die by the sword (the sword here being maximalism).
