The Devil's Children
⭐️⭐️.5/5

Details a small community that somehow escaped the effects of Captain Trips. They call those who were immune "The Chosen." Felt very much like an allegory for the historical relationship between Natives and white colonizers.

Came the Last Night of Sadness
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Didn't care for it at first, could be a bit confusing at times, but ended up enjoying it. Told about Fern, a girl who doesn't remember how she came to be and is definitely a bit supernatural. I liked the parts that weren't related to her story best, actually. The side stories of how the world is getting on after the flu. Especially loved Layla the elephant.

Hunted to Extinction
⭐️⭐️/5

Didn't love this one, it got a little too abstract. It was like what if 30 years after The Stand, but mash up Children of Men + IT. Interesting concept, but not my favorite.

Grand Junction

A story that takes place 30 years after the end of The Stand. Was hoping for something that told a more broad tale of how the world was doing. This almost felt like it had elements of Dr. Sleep, too. Just kind of meh.

Awaiting Orders in Flaggston
⭐️⭐️/5

Mostly depressing story about an outpost of crazy Flagg devotees who hold hostage a girl who has never dreamed of either force (good or evil).

He's a Righteous Man
⭐️⭐️.5/5

What would happen if an author (a fictious version of King) wrote The Stand just before a real superflu hit, predicting everything, and then he survived? He would become a religious figure among other survivors. A bleak tale.

Abigail's Gethsamane
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

Finally!! A story that delved into the characters we already knew and loved. I really enjoyed seeing more about Mother Abigail, both her past connection with Flagg and a bit about when she left Boulder. Besides the one earlier story that alluded to Larry Underwood, this was the first one that mentions anyone other than Mother or Flagg that we know (Nick Andros). Loved it.

The Mosque at the End of the World
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

I enjoyed another outside-of-the-US perspective of world. The author went with the path that Mother Abigail and Randall Flagg were a problem only for States. In Pakistan and India, they had their own problems to deal with. Despite that, it was a hopeful ending.

The Story I Tell Is the Story of Some of Us
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This was told in a first-person perspective of an unnamed person relating the tale of their friend, this friend being apparently the key to the battle between good and evil. The ending was... odd. I'm not sure if I liked this story or if it was just kind of interesting.

The Boat Man
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

The ending was ambiguous and left me hanging. Not totally sure what to make of it. I liked Marie, the main character, a teen who teams up with a fairly annoying 10-year-old boy and a man who you're never sure if he's benevolent or malicious.

Trigger warning: 🍇
I liked that this was a story from outside of the United States. It focused on a young man and a bitter woman who are called on by Flagg. Comeuppance is doled out at the end, but in a bittersweet way.
