You could compare this to Sally Rooney’s writing and say they’re both equally detached, but that’s not true. There’s heart in Sally Rooney’s books that I’m having trouble finding here. I don’t like István—frankly, I can’t think of one redeeming quality (or character in the book I’ve enjoyed coming across for that matter). It is weirdly readable, but not pleasurable.
