Slow start that really builds with each new character's perspective. Greer always manages to make a formative moment in a characters lifetime feel as though it happens in slow motion. The end of chapter 1 where the initial hook reaches its crescendo was brilliant. It's so nice to see where Greer started developing his writing and how it initially was shaped.
