The authors sections into his personal life breaks my heart bit by bit— the open details, the true raw emotions that he speaks about. The fact that he’s able to remember his childhood so vividly in certain memories, it is both a burden and a gift to be able to remember those aspects. Thank you for sharing parts of your life.

While the story is intriguing, there are some gruesome details. I was not prepared for the dachshund scene, but it does fascinate me how the author flips between perspectives— it can be confusing at times, where sometimes there’s no real separator, and it just jumps into a different perspective, but David Demchuk has a very interesting way of writing. It gives me hope for my own writing.

“This may not be the story you expected. These fears, these horrors, may not be the ones you thought you’d face as you began to turn these pages. For that, I apologize, though I hope you’ll stay with me. You see, a friend of mine is gone, and I’m afraid, and I’m not sure what else I can do.”

The way this book is written is semi confusing, but from what I’ve read, it is worth continuing.

I started reading this book a few years ago, restarting it now. I remember bringing it to my grandmother‘s bowling league, I felt uncomfortable as I knew their views were not kind when it came to sexuality/LGBTQ. I missed an entire section of the beginning of the book first time, and I’m really glad I went back to reread. The way the author writes this book is absolutely fascinating. I look forward to the rest.
