I don't need to read the translation of Sallustius to rate this five stars, although I'm not putting it off. Beautifully articulated by Murray, these five essays remind me a bit of the book I just read by Walter Pater on The Renaissance, if you could substitute Renaissance art & philosophy for Greek religion. This is essential reading for understanding what part the gods played in the lives of the ancient Greeks.

So far I'm loving it! The next and final chapter is entitled "The Failure of Nerve"... sounds promising!
