This is a very fact-heavy book, so I don't always pick up on all the details, but every now and then a bit of information jumps out at me:
King Micipsa's brother, Prince Mastanabal, won gold in the Olympic chariot racing around 164 or 168 BC as one of the first non-Greek, royal competitors. The timeline overlap between Numidian Kings and Greek influence is something I just haven't quite got my head around!

We have travelled through the era of Mansa Musa and the Kingdoms of West Africa (including Timbuktu in Mali), and Tippu Tib and the first enslavers (a harrowing chapter)

Really interesting learning about the overlap between Sudanese and Nubian (Egyptian) history. It's incredible to think about just how much history is yet to be uncovered in that region.

This is super interesting but I can't deny that I'm already struggling a bit to stay engaged with the heavy historical details

I picked up this audiobook because I know next to nothing about Africa and African history - and I'd like to learn a bit. I also chose this book because it's researched and written by an African author, which I'm hoping will give a more accurate lens over Western authors that try to do the same.
