“Damn, I’m sorry sweetheart...”
“That’s right; it’s a rope burn, because a big, sexy cowboy roped me for Valentine’s Day this year. He tied me down and had his wicked way with me.” Drannon’s nostrils flared. “And what’s a little scrap like you going to do about it?”
“Nothing. I’m happy to be tied down for him.

He didn’t give her a chance to decide before he kissed her. It was a soul-stealing, deeply passionate kiss that left no doubt in her mind how he felt about his brothers flirting. He might not be in an outright pissing match, but he’d more or less just marked his territory.

“Drannon, don’t fall in love with me,” she whispered, biting down on her lip to keep from crying. He huffed a despondent laugh. “Oh, if only it was that simple, sweetheart.”
“It is that simple. This is temporary,” she argued, struggling to keep her own emotions walled off. “It seems like everything good in my life is temporary."

“Tomorrow is your birthday?” Drannon looked surprised, “On Valentine’s Day?”
Lacy blushed again, and took a sip of milk before nodding. “It’s not a big deal. I’ve never really celebrated it. Between it being the anniversary of Mom’s death and a stupid holiday created by the gift card industry to empty our wallets, it just never felt like a good day to me.”

Drannon watched a myriad of emotions cross Lacy’s face. After such a beautiful, intimate moment, he wanted to keep the warm glow they’d created between them for as long as possible. Maybe if he’d slowed down to think about protection they wouldn’t be sitting there in awkward silence.

Pressing her backwards against the railing, he broke their kiss off with a curse when she stumbled on the step. The fire in her chocolate-brown eyes was roaring with need and called out to his inner caveman. How would she react if he threw her over his shoulder and carted her off to his bed?

Soap bubbles trickled over the black ink on his left rib cage, and he murmured the words to himself. Growth before pride. It had become his mantra, and he had to tell himself continuously that he was growing as a person. Lately, he believed it less and less.

Started good. Drannon's flashback to his mom dying and him combine to the ranch even put tears in my eyes....BUT then a few of my pet peeves happened. She drips and plays with herself, etc. and the words were cheesy/cringeworthy. Not my cuppa.

“This is the closest I’ve ever been to a real horse.”
“Toto is honored to be your first.”
Lacy’s eyes darted to the cowboy. His flirtations weren’t subtle & his eyes blatantly said he would be up for a hot, sweaty fling.
“Are all of the Crawley Creek cowboys this forward?”
His eyes shuttered & the heat seemed to seep out instantly. “I apologize. It’s not often a beautiful woman appears in the barn out of nowhere.

It didn’t matter that Elena Russo was a drug addict who frequently sold her body to men in order to buy peanut butter and bread to keep in the cupboards of their tiny one bedroom apartment. All that mattered was that she was his mom and the only person in the world who had ever loved him. Now she was gone.
