The discovery of insulin was full of SO MUCH interpersonal drama! Scientists and their egos, daaaaaamn. I'm so surprised the four agreed on selling the patent to the university for $1.
Also bizarre to encounter the men behind the names/organizations Joslin and Eli Lilly.

Ugly crying over how families traveled to Toronto, desperate for insulin for their children once its discovery was announced, pleading for it while the University and Eli Lilly struggled to mass produce it. Parents desperate because they're so close to a cure but their children have only days or weeks to live. I can't imagine being on the cusp of hope only to die. Utterly horrifying. I hate this disease.

Slow going, I can only take this in bites, as I break down crying listening. In the diabetic sanitarium, she's 14, weighs 45 pounds, and is only allowed to eat 500 calories a day. Breakfast is an egg and a tablespoon of coffee and cream.
Jesus Christ this disease is traumatic and so incredibly unfair.
