This book is dreadful because the stupid idiot Roberto Jordan has fallen in love with Maria and she with him, and he is too stupid to get the hell out of Spain and back to the States so he can live happily ever after with her, have a nice job, a nice place to live and a boatload of kids. What an idiot. I know it's going to end badly for the lot of them, which makes this book a drag.
