Reading this after “I Know Who Have Never Known Men”and “1984” is really interesting as they seem to explore similar themes of dystopia, culture, and personhood. It’s also quite introspective with the environment literally mirroring her mind, with the eternal snow covering everything underneath, the items and R hidden away in secret, and the tsunami.
