It is disrespectful to think [you] have to protect the other person in an argument; how very little you must think of the other person if you believe you are so powerful that they would crumble at your words.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for what you want. In fact, if you never ask for what you want, you are depriving people around you from being able to give it to you most effectively.
