This is one of those series that just keeps getting juicier and better by the page. I know i’ve said it a million times in these Abaratian updates but it cannot be said enough. I may even finish this by tomorrow; the plot is really folding together like origami.

Now finished w/ Part 2 out of 4 in this book, Abarat continues to impress me; moving houses, special squids used as binoculars, shapeshifters,, magic enchantments, all of which are like nothing i’ve read before. Everytime i open this book it feels like i’m dreaming, in that weird Twilight Zone feel dreams can sometimes have. If you don’t like horror but have wanted to read something Clive Barker, i suggest this

A war between literal night and day is brewing, because the world of Abarat is split into islands based on the 24 hour clock system. Henceforth the dark forces are building armies of Stitchlings, (humans sewn together with fabric imbued with dark magic) and our main character Candy is trying to come up with a ways to combat this army. Such a unique story that i really can’t get enough at the moment!!!

What i love about this book is its characters, and the ability to let them carry the story along fluently. For example there was a new character introduced named Leeman Vol and his description is as follows: “ Nothing about Vol was pleasant or pretty. He did not like the company of his fellow bipeds much, referring to enjoy the fellowship of insects’ … ’ he had lost his nose to a spider many years ago.”
