“He had done it all, little, hardheaded, blustering Gerald” you are a slave owner Gerald. You didn’t do any of it. Enjoying reading this book so far but I am left dumbfounded at every page turn that it is not written from a place of irony.This author was not even born during the time she is writing about. Truly harrowing how this novel showcases the utopian nostalgia the people of the south still had in the 30s

Place of irony is ill phrased. It’s good to read fiction like this that is clearly so informed by the authors belief system, reminds you just how real this thought process was and is
