Was getting preeeetty tired of how meandering this seemed to be, but the big inciting incident just happened, so now it’s 50/50 whether it’ll be great or terrible. The merge idea is an interesting one, but like. It’s already been done (Ann leckie’s rranslation state, eg) so there needs to be smth compelling about this one in particular, and so far there hasn’t been. But let’s see what this twist does
