chapter 11-12. can’t believe i’m halfway through! i’m excited to read more from this genre.

“Accessibility matters.”

ch 10, like most of yellowface, challenges the reader to think intently about the writing industry. the main theme to emphasize here is accessibility vs authenticity. ofc, writers can write from any voice. however, my personal views on it are complicated. sensitivity should be at the forefront of everything published. i don’t care for exploitative literature that disregard that :/

this chapter (9), i tried to highlight the racist things june says. quite excited to see how many i recognize when i’m done!

5: still extremely racist. this chapter (and the book so far) is really engaging. i like how crazy june gets but WOW do i want her to d1e. all of this is so hard to get through. as a writer and a reader, it makes me so paranoid to support literature when it could be authored by a -phobic/-ist white person lol. the industry is so hard to navigate and kind of thankless & toxic & this book reminded me of that HDNDJS

ch 4: the racism in this is so hard to get through. i know that’s the point but WOWW

chapter 1-3 done! most contemporary read for book club so far(?)
