Brown is very astute in teasing out the crises of Freudo-Marxism from the 20s and 30s to the era of the New Left by synthesizing Marcuse, Reich, Levebfre, Horkheimer, Fromm and so forth in his own analysis of the conditions for the cultural revolution of desires, and its relationship to the utopian praxis of communism. Production and repression of desires is inextricable from the stabilization of the capitalist order
