Lots about Halsey here. Big mouth but near perfect wartime leader. Then some interesting items about his acquiring a command facility and living in the old Japanese consulate on Nomea.

Sustainment and logistics issues for the Japanese .they Still seem to be winning many naval engagements, but the saying that professionals talk logistics has a basis in reality

Halsey gets aggressive and ends up stopping Japanese naval shelling for a night and leaving transports unguarded. Looks like we actually could have been stopping free movement around the island this whole time

Train ride bulk reading: Halsey takes command, naval battles of Savo islands and destroyers attempting to sink Japanese battleships after aggressive resupply runs. I didn’t realize we were down to one carrier in the theatre at one point. Much heavier allied losses than I originally thought.

Japanese assault on Guadalcanal in October. Clear they’re setting conditions for ground landing, unclear why they’re able to move naval forces around the island unmolested except by Henderson-based aircraft. Ghormley relieved by Halsey at the end.
