There's already a heartbreaking realization that Lucy is going to be the one to refuse to accept herself because she has already demonstrated some insecurities, especially in comparison with the other girls in her group. This contrasts Susannah who seems completely secure in herself and therefore this part of her identity isn't something that she's insecure nor unsure about. She finds it beautiful while Lucy doesn't.
