Witnessing Helena become increasingly isolated from her close friends and her realizing her superior officers are exploiting is heartbreaking. They essentially told her to become Ferron’s “property” during and after the war, or she would be expelled from the resistance. Part 2 has been incredibly depressing to read, and I can only imagine how much more heartbreaking part 3 will be.
