This book is just as fantastic as I have so fondly remembered it!!!! My younger self AND my 35 year old self would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of fantasy, hints of romance, an underdog heroine finding her place, a kingdom in peril at the hands of demon mischief, dog-sized dragons that terrorize villages.

Book 1 of 6 goal to reread FAVORITE Books from my childhood. I first read this in approximately 1999-2000, and absolutely loved it. I remember being so immersed in the descriptive and at times dream-like writing, and admiring an overlooked heroine willing to go against the odds. I read this so so so many times. I haven’t read it in at least 17 years if not more and I’m so excited to read this again.
