Meridian is introduced with some of the most powerful imagery I’ve ever read. I couldn’t help but be instantly enthralled by her. This fascination hasn’t dropped at all so far as Walker has expertly mythologised the history of the college Meridian attends. Haunted both by dead slaves and more recently deceased black teen mothers.

Annoyed that One Battle After Another was made before this was adapted.
