Many years ago I almost wrote a bachelor's thesis on this work (but I never even got around to reading it lol), alongside another book that may be of interest to you, Kris, if you are not familiar with it already: Henry Mayhew's London Labour and the London Poor. I've only read bits of it but I see one review here on it that says it is "the reality of a Dickens novel." Seems apt, and I'll get around to it at some point myself once I finally really delve into Dickens.
