a girl at my hostel saw I was reading this and said she couldn’t get too far into it because it was so depressing. She recommended The Midnight Library instead, as it was far more hopeful and uplifting. Having read that work and others by Matt Haig, and hated them, I think this simple recommendation is precisely why I love Miriam Toews writing- that she is rather unafraid to lay bare mental illness
