The current chapter that I’m on is infuriating. It’s a reminder of the role of mainstream media and its deliberate and calculated use of words, or omission of historical context in order to manufacture consent for brutality against a civilian population.

@rhanna it’s been really great . The book has really highlighted the differences between media coverage between Gaza and Ukraine. It also goes into depth about passive language and how it’s used to conceal or minimize Israeli violence . It also talks about burying the lead , if Russia commits a crime the headline specifically relays that to the reader , if Israel commits a crime you will see “explosion rocks Gaza as hunger increases” as a headline. Who set off the explosion? Why are people going hungry ? It’s 10/10 so far , more people should be reading this book
The book also talks about how people that work at CNN, msnbc, etc have confessed anonymously that editors at their institutions have made them censor articles that reveal Israeli violence , and use more ambiguous language to describe the violence . Yet if the violence is done by Palestinians , or Russians you will see more emotive terms used “savage, barbaric, butchered” etc. Words never used to describe Israeli violence
