Well, so far I’m unsure why this is regarded as one of the greatest novels. It continues to be much like a Russian soap opera full of characters that are frustrating and debase. I suppose I am starting to attach to Kitty and Levin, but overall still looking for a protagonist that I admire. It is surprisingly easy to read and Tolstoy certainly creates characters that are very real.

This is actually my second read. I am enjoying it much more this time and am reading it with my youngest daughter for her World Lit so that's fun. I knew nothing about the plot when I read this for the first time about six years ago and couldn't get over the depravity of Anna's storyline. The writing is beautiful and surprisingly readable. I am enjoying it so much more this time.
