Bell hooks beats to death the concept of society's role in removing emotion from men. This is an important conversation and needs to be had. However, not just men are being socialized to not feel emotions, and this book doesn't feel like it's addressing that at all. Our emotional stunting is detrimental to all on both sides. I would like to read a book that is examines both of these factors and how they relate.

Bell Hooks says that women are given freedom through "sexist rolls" to learn emotions and men are not. Anger is just as important an emotion as love. Their book makes it feel like women are waiting for men to
have emotions without addressing women's lack of ability to feel specific emotions, and how this lack support the continued struggle that men suffer to express love.
