The arms hold the spear.
And the spear cuts through water.”

“It was an old lesson that everyone in the old village knew: You can fault the dancer, but more often than not, it is the dance itself that has to change.”

It’s very different from anything else I’ve read. In a good way.

Josh This one's been on my list for a while.

Paul It’s so different from anything else I’ve read. Took me about 60 pages to really get into it. But now I can safely say it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read.

Pete Davies I can't remember how many pages I was into it when I gave up, but it was at least 100. It's a real shame because I loved The Vanished Birds - it was one of my books of the year - and had been very much looking forward to reading this.

Paul Maybe you weren’t in the right headspace at the time or were expecting something else. Or it just didn’t work for you. Who knows. There’s been several books for me I quit on that others have loved.. All I know is that I went in blind to this one and it’s so wild and unpredictable. Just gotta roll with it. I’m so attached to these characters and the writing is beautiful.

Pete Davies Yep I could see that my view of this book is very much an outlier. I think you're right that "not the right moment" might play a part. I often struggle with fantasy as well, it's not really a favourite genre of mine. But if you've not read it yet, The Vanished Birds is wonderful.

Paul Ok thanks I’ll check it out. I don’t read much fantasy either. Probably like 85% Sci-Fi.
