Prose that is both so pretty and so heart wrenching. ❤️‍🩹 The multigenerational storyline has so many parallels to Pachinko but I love the magical realism in this one!

“If this was to be her home, she wished to act in ways that reminded her of the sister she had once been, the girl her parents had raised her to be.”

So masterfully written thus far, can’t believe it’s Jiyoung Han’s debut novel!!?

Quote that resonated from today’s reading: “In receiving this tea, Seiko unknowingly drank from the well of the girl’s unspeakable sorrow and shed it as her own. The old woman’s life, unfulfilled, stood as a ready vessel for the burdens of another life lived too quickly, of another life so fractured it could no longer sustain itself.”
