This book is actually quite feminist for the time, exploring pay discrepancies between men and women, but I must point out one humorous detail. Mary is whining about how “old” she is, she’ll never get a husband. I’m thinking, what, you’re late-40s? 50s? She’s 28! I actually said aloud “OH POOR YOU!”
