I’m nearly at the end and I’m still not sold on this book at all. It started off fine but I’ve just not enjoyed it. Being titled ‘Essays on Death, Grief & Bereavement Across Cultures’ feels misleading - as any mention of these things has been so surface level that it’s been more memoir and journal, than actual exploration of any of those themes and I’m just left wanting so much more from the book.

I’m so drunk in Bunny’s Karaoke why did I decide to carry on reading this while Conni and Red went to the toilet

Once again, so many surface level takes, insensitive writing and a spiel about true crime that doesn’t really do anything?

Once again what is it with all the Taylor Swift references:( A lot of surface level takes and just a whole lot of nothing over the last chapter. I was disappointed in the repeats of text in places and just lazy writing overall. For someone with two MsC’s and a PHD I expected better, this is just reading as a semi serious substack post.

I’m finding a lot of typos, grammatical errors, dud references and just flat out incorrect facts and figures, which is deeply disappointing. I quite literally tossed the book across the sofa at the mention of Taylor Swift and felt even more begrudgement towards reading on any further.
