So this whole time I thought this was like a 100% fantasy book, but the characters literally live in Montreal and the language-style is the way it is because it’s set in the 1920s. The book tells you in big ass bold letters on the back how did I miss that !?? I’ve been waiting for the FMC to drop this fancy fairytale-like name of her city and she’s like “ Montreal is so cold in the winter “ lol

So this book is heavily influenced by French culture which is pretty cool because when I imagine the setting of this book I envision the towns/cities from Howl’s moving castle which were also inspired cities in France
