It's actually wild that two pillars of classical horror, the Shining and the Exorcist, are literary opposites. While the shining was all build up and little climax, this skipped build up and plunged straight into the horror, while still building layered characters and feeling intellectually provocative. There seems to be less pointless internal monologuing and more events that are relevant and yet so far it's p mid.
