“Sending girls to school leads to greater literacy, higher wages, faster, income growth, and more productive farming. It reduces permarital sex, lowers the chance of early marriage, delays first births, and helps mothers plan how many children to have and when. Mothers who have had an education do a better job learning about nutrition, vaccination, and other behaviors necessary for raising healthy children.”

Aaaaaaand you just had to end this chapter on that note didn’t you

“do you know why I use contraceptives? because I want to bring every good thing to this child before I have another.”

“When women can time and space their births, maternal mortality drops, newborn and child mortality drops, the mother and baby are healthier, the parents have more time and energy to care for each child, and families can put more resources towards the nutrition, and education of each one” <- why contraceptives are important in developing countries. Family planning is not baby murder tho, let’s make that clear

“The most unjust thing in the world for children to die because their parents are poor”

This will be an interesting read for me, reading within the context of developing nations- I’m in total agreement. But within the context of the US these issues are an entirely different animal that I don’t entirely align with. It’ll be interesting to see if those boundaries are blurred at all
