The author is an advanced writer in my opinion. From the title; cover; & narrator Esmé (Esmeralda). It’s all very intriguing & well assembled. Francesca Marciano has a way with utilizing words, along side an extensive vocabulary. Every few pages or so I find an unfamiliar word. Exciting. I’m invested in seeing the story through. It’s difficult to engage due to the fact it’s not my typical choice of genre.

I think it’s less of it being difficult to engage in the book referring to last update. Genuinely not amused by the white privilege in Africa. No one within the story is oblivious to it either and land is being capitalized through words in a fictional setting. The story would have been just as good in a different setting/race. It’s leaving a bad taste like before last bite of some you realize you didn’t enjoy.
