Can I continue? What happened to saintly Hassan is bad enough, but what Amir doesn't say/do and does say/do thereafter is utterly vile and unforgiveable. I feel physically sick. Shall I continue?

Cecily, I didn’t find the rest of the book redeeming (for Amir and the narrative overall). Your call here but I’m not a fan.

That's the exact same question I asked myself after reaching that point in the book, and by the end of the book I did wish I'd just dnf'd it. For me personally, it got to be too much and made me kinda spiral after reading.

The physically brutal incident is unpleasant to read about, but narratively justified. It's what happened thereafter as a consequence that is so unbearably nasty for me, and harder to believe or explain. However, I am going to continue reading a bit further, with extreme trepidation.
