What incredibly sweet gestures. is this the best marriage-rehab story ever?? (well. no. because of all the porn. but outside of that I absolutely love how focused we've been on strengthening them without needing to actually break them first.)

I'm sorry?? You just wrote 10 pages of porn and now wanna pass me off with "we stayed up late talking and reminiscing and everything felt so effortless, like it used to"? PRIORITIES, STRAIGHTEN THEM

AGAIN?? It has been 2 seconds. I am beginning to wonder what else you even have in common.

Oh NO. Noooooo. Flipped past looking for the end of it as fast as I could but did not save my eyes from all of it so this is my clear and emphatic warning to just go ahead and skip all of chapter 18 up to the flashback part; what in the Elsie Silver levels of horrifying XXX.

OK I actually really like Caleb's plan for "leaving a legacy."

1st: this speech is Grey's Anatomy-worthy except with extra insecurity, my heart! 2nd, CALEB LET ME LOVE YOU. Being perfectly happy with how things are, hoping they stay the exact same for the next 30 years and being upset when your partner thinks you both need to change in order to grow? THE perfect man. The only valid use of an F-bomb so far in this book is "Fuck me for being happy I guess." So cathartic.

Oh wow this laundry list of insecurities that she imagines Caleb secretly thinking about her...I mean she SHOULD feel bad about drinking too much, but otherwise, these are exactly the things I would worry about in her position about not living up to her potential, "the potential he saw in me before I saw it in myself. That he has, no doubt, painfully watched go to waste over the years." OUCH TO THE HEART.

what is this obsession women have with wanting an independent stage. I also went from daughter to wife* and I would 10/10 recommend. 100/10 if your future spouse is rich and not stingy about sharing money. (*admittedly I did go to college in between, but I would say my life more closely resembled that of a teenager in boarding school than learning to live as an independent adult).

What do you *mean* you "wouldn't wish being a 10-year-old girl on anyone, it's lousy"? That is literally the best age. IDK what kind of weird life you guys led but that was PRIME 'having amazing fun being a kid and playing with toys without being a LITTLE kid' years. No part of me was thinking about growing up except vaguely in the sense of 'when I'm an adult I will live on a farm with dogs and horses.'

WHY!!! The degree to which no one has ever needed to read something like the start of chapter 4 is incalculable.
