At first, I thought the war was WWII, but after this last chapter, I’ve changed my mind. We’re too far into the current day for these people to have lived through WWII. I thought grandma was possibly polish or Slavic as well. Now I’m thinking we’re looking at the Bosnia-Serbia conflict.
