Fascinating that a lot of things that happened during World War II changed the way people who weren’t “professional scientists” were viewed. Previously, you would have dilettante scientists(people would say they are “dabblers” ) who provided real scientific discoveries. Then Nazis adopted the pseudoscience of Eugenics, destroying the dilettante scientists with no regard to the scientific merit or study.
